Efrem Ogbaye, also known as "Effi International" was raised in Europe. His passion for food runs in his family and he has found a way to bring Habesha cuisine to the 21st Century. Effi realized his enthusiasm for food while growing up in Sweden. He became frustrated by the lack of creativity in the East African community when it came to culinary arts. His disappointment led him to think of ways to incorporate modern techniques of serving traditional East African cuisine. After experimenting with East African spices and European presentation he found a method to incorporate both elements and create an amazing and innovative dining experience. When asked about his goals, Effi says, "I want the world to recognize Habesha cuisine as elegant and tasteful dishes".
Effi has lent his knowledge and expertise to many restaurants and lounges in the Northern VA/Washington D.C./Baltimore area, including
Eden's Lounge, Eyo Sport Bar, Expo Restaurant, Injera restaurant, Heaven Lounge and Pure Lounge. His work at these restaurants involved transforming menu items creating an atmosphere of a heightened dining experience. He is highly regarded in the community for his ability to fuse unorthodox food combinations and provide a tasteful revelation. Indulging in one of his signature dishes such as Chicken Shiro Pasta, Injera Salad or Filet Mignon with Sidamo Coffee Sauce will open your eyes to a new culinary experience.
